Scottish Neonatal Nurses Group

The Scottish Neonatal Nurses Group (SNNG) is a professional interest group for neonatal nurses and midwives. Members include staff from all Scottish medical and surgical neonatal units, neonatal educators and clinical managers.

The aims of the group are to:

• To promote best practice in neonatal nursing for the benefit of babies, their families and the neonatal nurses/midwives involved in their care.
• To share and disseminate information and update members on developments in clinical practice via newsletters, meetings, conferences and sponsorship. • To strengthen the voice of the neonatal nurse/midwife in Scotland on all matters relevant to neonatal nursing through participation in national consultations, projects and working groups. • To promote research in neonatal nursing.

Contacts

Newsletters
The SNNG publishes a newsletter to disseminate information and update members. The newsletter comprises articles submitted by SNNG members. Articles include:

• News items
• Innovations
• Practice developments
• Project reports
• Research and audit reports

All members are encouraged to submit articles for inclusion. To submit an article e-mail the newsletter editor: liz.macrae@aaaht.scot.nhs.uk

Annual conference
The SNNG organises an annual conference on current issues and advances in neonatal practice. This is the only conference in Scotland organised by neonatal nurses, for neonatal nurses. The conference is well supported by manufacturers/distributors whose exhibition allows attendees the opportunity to view the latest neonatal products.

This "value for money" conference is offered at a discounted fee for members. The 2009 conference has been rescheduled to spring 2010. For more details access www.snng.org.uk

Sponsorship
The SNNG usually offers an annual sponsorship award to current members. This assisted funding can be used towards neonatal education, undertaking a project or research, conference attendance or other appropriate initiative.

Applications for funding are invited annually in May. To be considered for the award applicants have to submit a written paper of 500 words in support of their application. Successful applicants will be required to supply an article for the newsletter and may be invited to present feedback at an SNNG meeting.
